Health, Water, Sanitation & Hygiene:

AJKA, as a community based local organization focuses on universal access to Health, Water, and Sanitation & Hygiene with the involvement of Community.  To its credit, AJKA is managing an Urban Primary Health Center in slum area of Brajarajnagar city in Jharasuguda district by the support of National Urban Mission, Govt. of India.   Looking at the issues faced by the residents of Brajarajnagar slum clusters, AJKA has undertaken the medical activities for providing health services to the slum dwellers. To boost this program, United Nation’s Women Guild, Vienna has donated a Grant for the financial year 2016-17 to purchase of medical equipments for the child and mother care project.

 

Similarly, the issue of sanitation is chronic. Almost all households in our operational areas devoid of sanitation facilities and, thus, practice open defecation. AJKA has been creating mass awareness on Swachh Bharat Abhiyan to abolish open defecation practices. In the rainy season, the situation worsens, as the entire area gets waterlogged and open defecation becomes an acute issue. Hence, AJKA aimed at bring about behavior change on the issues of water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) and also improving the overall living standards of the residents of these slums and rural people along with school-going children at large. Besides AJKA has formed and strengthen 113 nos of Mahila Arogya Samiti,23 nos Woard Kalyan Samiti and 1 nos of Rogi Kalyan Samiti in urban area of Brajrajnagar city for providing basic health services facility.
